Findings from the International Coach Federation (ICF) Coaching Client Study, released January 2009, reports 86% of coachees as very satisfied with their coaching engagement and 96% of respondents stating that they would hire a coach again.
A recent study by the ICF, which circulated a survey to 30,000 coaches including both the full ICF membership and all those who had registered independently via the survey website, found the following:
- The greatest levels of growth within the coaching industry are found within the South American and African regions
- These areas record the highest proportions of new coaches (21.9% and 21.5%, respectively).
- Within individual countries
- South Africa (21.3%)
- Switzerland (17.4%)
- Within individual countries
- The number of coaches currently operating globally is still a source of debate.
- Whilst the figure of 50,000 coaches worldwide has often been quoted, a more prudent estimate is 30,000.
- U.S. market represents approximately 50% of the global market.
- The age profile for clients was predominantly between 38 and 45 years (35.0%)
- one-fourth (27.2%) of coaches had clients aged between 46 and 55 years.
- The main methods that coaches used to communicate with their clients are face-to-face (54.5%) and telephone (41.9%).
- ICF members were significantly more likely (45.3%) than were nonmembers (33.4%) to use telephone coaching as their main coaching method.
- Analyzing this factor on a regional basis, North America is the only region where telephone (56.2%) coaching exceeds face-to-face (40.1%) coaching.
- These areas record the highest proportions of new coaches (21.9% and 21.5%, respectively).
In 2008 the Economist reported a annual growth rate of 25% for the global executive coaching industry.
Use of coaching is widespread in UK organizations, with almost nine in ten respondents reporting that they now use coaching in their organization -University of Bristol Newsletter.
A recent report by the Strategic Executive Coaching Alliance (SECA) noted that at least half of all U.S. businesses surveyed had hired coaches; 88% of European companies and 70% of Australian businesses.
