The January 2009 HBR Research Report, The Realities of Executive Coaching noted “active engagement” and “change readiness” the two most important factors for coachability.
Other indicators of coachability include:
- Ready for a change in life direction
- Interested in more satisfying communication with others
- Ready to take the next step from thinking about change to acting for change
- Interested in increased fulfillment and meaning in life
- Interested in gaining more clarity and focus with life purpose, values and goals
- Aware of making a shift from being reactive to being proactive
- Aware of a need to align work/life areas
- Interested in looking at themselves honestly
